1960's Collaro Turntable - Proper wiring for tone arm

I'm restoring an old Magnavox Stereo Console Model 1SC 268F, with a Collaro turntable. Not sure the year, but 60's era for sure. I'm swimming upstream if you consider I've only successfully restored about 5 so far and I don't have a schematic or service manual and I am self trained, so I don't know all of the proper nomenclature.

Here is the issue - the tone arm wiring has become disconnected as I was working on the changer, and before I was able to take a photo. After reconnecting the wires, can anyone tell me if the wiring Is connected as it should be? Currently, when I hook It up to the amp, I'm getting a scary, gradually loud hum and then I shut It off.

I've included photos. There are two wires coming from the tone arm. Each wire coming out of the tone arm has a main wire, and what seems to be a ground wire. The very fine ground wire is enclosed in the casing of the main wire. So, there are 4 wires that attach to 2 copper connectors.. Each copper connector has two terminals, a right and left. Seems that the green tone arm wire should connect to left terminal, and the associated ground wire on the right terminal. Same for the gray tone arm wire.

I sure would appreciate any insights or direction. If you need more photos, I am happy to oblige.

Here’s my thoughts. The green and grey are the hots or plus side. The outer wires are the grounds. If you have a digital meter I would run a continuity check from the cartridge to where the wires come out of the bottom of the arm. If it was my project I would get rid of the that tangle of wires and solder the wires coming off the arm to the cable going to the amp. From your description it looks like a broken wire somewhere. With age these tone arm wires are very brittle. My BSR 810s wires broke. They were so fine broke and resoldering them was brutal! You want to re wire that arm. Good luck hope this helps
