1961 Westinghouse H-M1310B help needed

I am very new to tube radios, in fact this will be my very first one. I need some help however. I got this set in non working condition and need some help. It was being thrown out from the memory care unit where i work. Needless to say, the manuals and knowledge of how it operates has long been lost. I have been doing some research, but cannot seem to find a manual or schematic that I dont have to pay for. Im not cheap, but im not going to pay for a manual that i cant preview first. as of right now, i cannot get it to turn on. the am/fm radio nor the turntable. any advice will be greatly greatly appreciated.

They have the schematic for free. Not a complete manual but its something.

No fuse. Looks like it uses either the record changer or the tuner to switch it on, but all power comes through the connector on the amplifier first. I'd probably have a gander in there to see if the cord is damaged and to make sure everything is plugged in at least.
 
The ON-OFF is a PUSH-PULL switch either part of the Volume or Balance knob. Pull up for ON and push down for OFF. The Phono switch only controls the Phono. That console should sound pretty decent, SE 7591's.
 
Do you own a DVM (test meter)? It won't hurt it for quick on/off test for just a sec to see if the tubes are lighting up.
 
Probably test to make sure it is getting 120 VAC into the switch then to the amp. If you are getting 120 VAC right up into the power transformer on the amp but no tube light up, then the power transformer would be suspect. The on/off switch itself could also be faulty. At least if it is the on/off switch, that one's an easy fix to bypass before trying to find a replacement.

Of course it would be a good idea to remove everything and put it on a bench for easy access and testing.
 
so i did some testing on the unit. IT DOES TURN ON!!! i was amazed. it was assuming it would just activate when i plugged it in, did not realize that the top knob is also the power switch. It also emits a loud Humming noise from the speakers when on. Im not sure if it is supposed to do that or not, but im going to venture a guess and say not. I have not attempted to run the phonograph yet, but it does play music on the FM stations. Any thoughts on the cause of the loud humming?
 
Yup. On the amplifier, see that silver can in between the power transformer and the output transformers? 99 times out of 100, that's the cause of your hum. The other one is most likely the cathode bypass capacitor and may not be the problem but both should be replaced anyway.

On the wiring diagram of the amplifier chassis, it says "CAP" which is short for capacitor. It is a multi-section capacitor meaning that it has two, three or sometimes four individual capacitors inside of it.

Sorry for the delay in my response, things got crazy at home. How difficult is it to replace the capacitors? Id like to keep the unit looking original if possible.
 
You can buy individual capacitors and mount them underneath (providing there is enough room) and leave the original capacitor alone and in place. If you go this route, just make sure you disconnect the original capacitor entirely from the circuit.
