Never have been quite as big of a fan of the 1961-64 era Cads as the earlier versions, but I've always thought the entire 1965 "Big Car" GM line-Especially the Caddy- was a full-bore, bases loaded, bottom of the 9th Home Run. Cad could, however, make a pretty good claim to be the "Standard of the World" in '62, & not be laughed at. In England, what did Rolls have to offer ? A fusty, obsolete car that was prolly the best 1939 Packard on the road... The Silver Shadow was still almost 4 years off...In Germany, BMW didn't really have anything to offer, & the world beating 600 Grosser Mercedes was still a year off... And even then, at nearly $20K a copy, you could buy almost 4 Cads for the price of one 600...Domestically, Lincoln was in the 2nd year of their sensational looking Continental, but Cad still sold nearly 3 cars for every Lincoln...Imperial ? Oh, please...In '62, they were still fixated on Virgil Exner's anal-rententive fin-mad monsters...
