1962 Fisher Futura III Console

My aging dad is about to downsize and will need to get rid of his Fisher console that he purchased in 1962. Specs are: Fisher Futura III, Model F-50, with 480-T, 660-A. Garrard RC88/Mk. II turntable. He told me that it did not work the last time he tried, and it has not even been plugged in for at least the last 18 years.

The unit is in eastern Tennessee, Johnson City. I was going to haul it back to Rochester, NY, and get it repaired here and enjoy the memories of “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” and Led Zeppelin that used to emanate from the speakers, but it’s dang heavy and somehow the van got filled with other stuff on the first trip.

I have no idea how to establish a value for it, and I would hate to see it hauled off to the landfill just to get rid of it. If it’s worth something, I’ll put it in the next van load of stuff. I have re-capped and cleaned up solid state radios, but would need to have a pro do this one. Any idea of the value of this in this condition?

Consoles on their own are hard to value and are a very niche market. I'd say, based on this post from a couple of years ago, the (tube) equipment is probably worth a lot more, particularly the tuner/pre, amp, and MPX adaptor (assuming yours has that), than the cabinet. If it has sentimental value then I'd say sure, take the whole thing, but if you're planning on selling it, probably not worth the effort to haul. At that point I'd remove the components (maybe including the speakers) and get rid of the cabinet. I know this will sound like sacrilege to some people, but it's better than trashing the entire thing. If you've recapped SS components, I don't see why this should be any different. It's unclear if the internal wiring is a PC board or point to point, but the latter would make it even easier.
 
It sounds like it has sentimental value to you. If you have room for it. Would give you time to think about it, later on.
I'd wished I would have kept my folks tube Admiral radio phono. For the memories.
Use variac and dim bulb when tried.
 
I think the cabinet style would hold back a sale for a lot of money but as mentioned before the components do have value.

If you think you'd maybe like to keep it then I suggest you get it whole and get it working. You could make a decision afterwards whether you want to keep or sell it. It really shouldn't be that hard to work on.
