1963 Magnavox Console El 84 w Sub Wolfer

I just restored a 1963 Motorola Class A El 84 console with 2 - 8 inch speakers, two tweeters and a 12 inch center sub woofer that has it's own output transformer ! , Certainly this was was way ahead of its time. Has a GE turntable. I hear stuff with this I can't hear on high dollar audio equipment. Sometimes less is better ! , This one has a separate tuner , amp , power supply, and fm multiplex unit. I know it is nothing in most of your eyes but I love the way it sounds, Class A is still the best sound no matter how much you spend.

I think we lost something when they stopped making console stereos.
I never had one but friends did so I got to hear their good sounds.
I know not what make or models they were tho.
I do know magnavox EL84 amps are something to be rekoned with.
My 9303, my 1st tube refurb , convinced me of that.
It really sounds good.

and here she be.

Its a Motorola, typo !

Im sure the Motos sounded pretty darn good also. Moast el84 amps do.
Still, it is another lost console. glad you got it.
It was gonna be parted out when I rescued it ! , Class A stuff in stereo I am always interested in saving ! , Sweet child of mine came on the radio last night and it sounded great on this old Motorola ! , it is too bad power output exceeds sound quality now a days , Class A is still the king of tone !

Its probably more of a mix. I'd expect A for the left and right, and AB1 for the center channel. If its push-pull for all 3 channels, then AB1 all around most likely. There are Class A push-pull amps, but they aren't the most common arrangement. It makes less power and more heat for your component count and power input.

Not that unusual to find a 3-channel amp but anyway, nice save!

BTW that's just a woofer, not a subwoofer.
