1965 Fender Mustang

Dan ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Peanut Head
Now here's an oldie. Customer had long ago attempted to refinish the guitar and just mucked it up something terrible. Had even glopped varnish over the chrome control panel and neck plate. Anyway, he wanted a fresh paint job and chose an antique white, thinking that since it was originally an Olympic White that it would have yellowed into the antique white (he's right) by now. I replaced the jack, repaired the wiring and cleaned up the chrome from the mess he had all over it.

That's a beauty, Dan. You've got skills, for finding the gem in what was a lump of coal.

About a hundred years ago, I had a Mustang just like that, for a few months. (seems that long ago, anyway) We used to 'churn' gear so that the look of our band fit the gig. Country bar, rock bar, wedding reception. Even played a Bar Mitzvah, once. Only two guitars I couldn't bring myself to sell. Hofner 'Beatle' bass, and an Eko Ranger XII 12-string. Both are in the care of other, more worthy players, and getting the love they deserve. I hope so, anyway.

i love those mustangs, it has the orginal case and eveything, very very nice. glad you were able to clean her up.

I was poking around at the local music shop today looking at the Fenders. They've got a nice Squier version of the Jaguar that I was messing with.

That '65 version is something else.

I love this photo of Mick Jagger with one.

I had a 1963 Fender Duo sonic 3/4 and my brother a blue 65 Mustang. Mine had all the finnish scraped off like many old Fenders.

I wish I still had my '61 Duo Sonic. :tears: Mine was a sunburst finish that had very little sun left to the burst. It was a pawn shop special, with the original tweed case. They sell for a lot more than the $125 I bought it for back in 1986.

I bought mine at Don Wehrs in San Francisco, on Colombus Ave. whoose sloogan was " If we can get it, they don't make it" a $99.99 special.

I've got 2 mustangs
a 1966 like the one shown, but not as nice a paint job as mine still has the original paint job but the edges have no paint as is worn down to the wood.
The other one is a 1975 sunburst. That one is my first guitar and I refuse to sell it.

Here's a picture of mine.
I did have to change the 3P3T switches as the orignals were rusted and would not slide and I changed the pickguard as the previous one was cracked and in many pieces. Other than that teh rest is original.

Love me some Fender Mustang!!! My first "good" guitar was a Mustang. $135 out the door in 1978. She still sounds and plays great!

Wine, dine, 1969:

I love the blue competition racing stripe! My dad owns the 1973 version with the non-colored headstock... it was the first guitar I learned how to play on! Unfortunately, though, it needs some work, as the switches are really scratchy, and it never stays in tune for more than 2 minutes.....

This one lived with me for a little while in the mid-80s, no idea where it is now:
