1965 Fisher Ambassador VII

Even though I had no room for it, I just acquired a 1965 Fisher Ambassador VII console in the French Provincial cabinet. It belonged to a young lady that inherited it from her Great-Grandmother. The house she was renting had been sold and she was being shown the door. Couldn't take it to her new place and it was going to get tossed. Oh hell no! It's in my storage room! It works, at least the radio plays and sounds good. The Dual 1009 was unsecured when they moved it to her place originally and it bounced around the compartment damaging the wood there. The tonearm rest is also missing. One of the legs is split and there are some pretty good scratches in the finish. I'm not complaining, it's worth much more than the nothing that I paid for it! My question is the back of the console. I have a Sylvania, and a Zenith console and the back of both of these is completely covered. The right side of the Fisher is wide open, and I don't see any screw holes. Is this the way they are?

Another question, one of the fancy curved legs is split. Looks like someone tried to drag the heavy bass-turd rather than lift it and broke the leg. I'm thinking wood glue and clamps. Any better ideas? Or is there somewhere else to ask?
 
Hello all! Happy Holidays! Sadly, I must admit that I've done almost nothing with the console yet. I was in the storage unit getting out holiday decorations and looked it over some more. The dial string apparently is broken. How involved is that to replace?
 
Remove the tuner/preamp. Follow the directions in the service manual last page. wjoe.com/wire.htm
