1970s SS Gear - Overrated/Underrated Brands

Unfortunately, he lives in a different state, so he can't audition my STA-2100/Mach One combo. I'm fairly certain it would blow his Sony BPC/Bose combo out of the water!

Plus, he spent probably over $200 on the BPC receiver alone! I acquired the STA-2100 for $75 and the Mach Ones for $40! :thmbsp:

At my own risk, I'll toss in one for the over-rated. I had a choice between the Sansui G-9000 and the G-9700 and I picked the G-9700. What a disappointment. The G-9700 has only a single pair of filters (the 9000 has two pair) and the wood case was paper thin. No TOTL should have vinyl covering but this one has it, it looks cheap. There are brittle plastic connectors everywhere and they get dirty requiring cleaning. Mine arrived with a bad channel and it took me an hour of cleaning and jiggling to clear it up. Almost all of the G-x000 series gets high marks here but there is little mention of the G-x700 series. The sound is passable but the build quality shows cost cutting. Oh well, my mistake!!

Late 70s Sanyo tuner/intagrated amp seperates [30 40 or 60 wpc]....good clear sound....very underated....

I bought a Sanyo intagrated w 60 WPC in '77 or '78 played my Thorens w/ those way cool Genisis speakers with the green foam!! That was was a kick ass amp :thmbsp: it was the '70's so I don't remember what happened to it

As I sit here listening to one of my Fisher RS-1060s, I can only say Fisher. I've tried almost everything, and while many things have been good and lived up to their reputation little has suprassed the reputation except for Fisher which is held in lower regard and surpasses some of the "better" stuff in terms of performance.

SS Fisher gear sounds just as good as the highly regarded Pioneer gear. I am not a tech so I cannot comment on the build quality but they sure do sound good.
