1975 Yamaha Natural Sound IS-44 Receiver

I bought this receiver on a whim. I loved the asthetics and haven't seen any Japanese equipment like this. Perhaps braun Dieter Rams kind of styling.

I plugged it In and the lights come on.
But I have never seen speaker connects like these ones before.

I am afraid that inserting a standard speaker wire left and right Into the holes may cause a problem. Any help here would be greatly appreciated

Regarding the speaker connection, it is an older, specialized connector. The Kenwood KA-6000 uses the same one for power connections. The system was probably sold as a package, so traditional connectors were not provided.

In this case, I would open it up and try to determine which sockets did what on which plug. If that wasn’t possible, I’d provide a source and use a multimeter to see which sockets had varying voltages, and try to make some sense from that.

I assume you are in a country where 240 volts is used.
 
I am in europe , I have powered the unit on and nothing else. I am not an engineer / technition so i feel stuck. I bought the unit from an online auction site for looks alone. Do you think its dangerous experimenting inserting speaker cables into the holes ? All info appreciated

Use a meter and see which of the 2 pins are connected problem can source comparable plugs shouldn’t be any risk plunging a meter in . Set meter to ac shouldn’t be any risk if you verify with a meter most likely 5-30 volts should be no dc voltage
 
Thank you for replying. Help me understand better. If I connect a multimeter to 2 sockets and it produces a reading of 5 to 30 volts then those are the speaker left and right connections? All info appreciated
