1979 Realistic bundle system

For no apparent reason other than I feel like it, I’m slowly putting together this 1979 Realistic bundle (pg 9 in the catalog). I have had the STA 85 in the closet for a while, then came across the LAB 53 (which I cannot find any information on) recently. I grabbed a set of Nova 16s that I refoamed and it sounds pretty good. Not going to blow anyone’s socks off, but it’s a nice change of pace from my Pioneer system. It has a nice crisp sound and decent mids, but not much on the low end, as expected. Radio sounds nice and picks up left-of-the-dial stations clearly, so I may just use it for that. I need to replace some lamps on the receiver, but everything else looks and operates nicely.

Sharp looking receiver, still looks modern.

Here you go for a little info on the LAB-53. Middle of pg. 24. Looks like a BSR. Fair warning: you're gonna be on that site a while.
While I love my realistic Sta2080s and sta2290 and Mach 2s I took a hammer to my lab80 turn table and put it out of my misery ! lol ! it was only a couple of yrs old but was never right ! I should have saved a little longer and got the lab dd turntable I hear those were really good !

Very nice! I have a soft spot for Realistic, currently set up in my bedroom STA-78 with LAB 300 using Minimus 7 speakers .

Thanks. Not sure how I missed that in the catalog. It’s a fun little turntable. Sounds OK, but nothing to write home about. Definitely a win for $5.

I like the setup and idea of experiencing a packaged setup like this.

I recently picked up a STA-77a from some family. It needs a service and lamps replaced. I'm looking forward to experiencing it.

Side note: I really like the music posters. I'm surprised someone else has heard of The Mezingers!
