1990's Boston A70's?

I got this pair and refoamed them and plan to paint them bright yellow. Not that big, maybe 2 feet tall and 1 foot wide, but they do image really well and have a sweet and punchy bass. Thing is, they don't look like the A70's of yore. No SEAS tweeters. Plus the tweeters are offset, unlike the pics I see on the internet of other A70 incarnations. Regardless, it's nice to know that one can still pick up a really good sounding pair of speakers for less than the cost of a lunch at Arby's, but I still wonder what these are.

The foam is supposed to roll onto the cone on those.
A70's series II, I had a pair and loved them, replace the lone 4uF cap and they might be one of your favorite speakers.

The vote seems to be out on that re foam. I've seen the advice about using filleted surrounds but I'm not convinced. The angle of these poly cones suggests using the conventional surround. Now, I've had a couple other A series speakers (A100's and A150's) that were older, the ones with paper cones and SEAS Tweeters, and those had woofers with a steeper angle so, yes, they warranted filleted foam. Now, the strength of these A70's sounds to be in the imaging and the mids and highs, so I'm not gonna get that freaked out about whether I've got the perfect surrounds on there. AND, once I get them yellow I'll report back on bass response.

They are a nice sounding speaker. I had a pair several years ago that I sold for far more than lunch money, so you got a great deal!

In the eighties I was smearing speaker cabinets with duraglass, fine sanding and shooting them in black lacquer....

Just coming back to talk about these Boston's...Jesus. Such a nice speaker. Been using them now for a few days and gotta say they are great. No longer feel the need to get a pair of JBL L26's
:)

There's just something about that "East Coast" sound. Tight bass, non-fatiguing, sucks you in. Sounds like a lady I once knew! :whip:

FWIW, I'm totally enjoying my Mk I Boston T930's. They seem to be very underrated and relatively unknown over here. I paid the equivalent of $50 US for mine recently - they're in great condition and have recently been re-foamed too to a high standard :-)
