1st post. Technics sl1600

Stumbled upon this sight after pulling out some audio gear from the closet that has been with me some time. Googled some things and here I am. I have been using the search function but have quite a few question and will get started with this one. I have a sl1600 that plays fine but does not auto return at the end of play. It just keeps spinning with the needle on the record.
Anyone know where to start with this fix?
After reading lots of the posts I realize that I am not as crazy as my wife thinks I am with all this gear in the closet.

If your turn table is the Technics SL-1600 (MKI), there should be a small round plastic stopper to the left of the tone arm base.

Lift it and see the screw inside.

That should be the lift point adjustment screw. :music:
 
See the plastic cap. I will get it hooked up and see if that is the fix. Already liking this place because the Turn Table is not in pieces with me trying to figure it out.

No manual for the Technics SL-1600 MKI, use the SL-1610 MKI.

No service manual though ... interesting - you'd think that someone would have uploaded one by now.
 
Unless you have the SL-1600MK2, I don't think there's a cueing belt to break.

Congratulations on your SL-1600. I got one around the time I was getting really heavy into vinyl. I sold it after I found a SL-1600MK2 at a garage sale and always regretted it. The SL-1600MK2 started malfunctioning and that led to a succession of tables: a Denon DP-52F, a Technics SL-D2, and a Technics SL-1700MK2 before finally finding another SL-1600. I'm a happy camper again!

If you've gone through the adjustment procedure from the manual, other problems with the automatic functions on this deck are likely due to dried up lithium grease on the mechanism. There's a good chance that if you go in and meticulously remove the old grease and apply new, your table should work as it should.
