2.1 stereo ?

T.O.S.

Even if not experienced with 2.1 systems and not theoretically a fan of this solution , I don't want to say NO ab initio to any solution . My problem : lack of enough bass in a +/-18sqm room rather full with furniture .

Amplifier : classic stereo solid state integrated . no LFC . Preamp stereo output available .

Main speakers : Epos M5 .I like them .Listening position nearfield. I'd want to keep what I like from these speakers .

Solutions :

1. A pair of floorstanders : Epos Elan 30? Tannoy DC6T?( Epos M16 not available any more) .It's the most costly variant for me , around 1000 GBP

2. A pair of mid sized stand mount speakers that I tended to be attracted of ( Epos Epic 2 or Elan15 ) - 15 L bass reflex . The Epic rather scarce these days , Elan 15 not too cheap , 700 GBP .

3.the third way would be to keep the M5 and complement them with a Warfedale Powercube SPC 10 ,would be the cheapest alternative for me .(This specific sub because it's available for a good price-300 GBP- in my area and it's not too big .Also 5 stars whathifi. Maybe the smaller SPC 8" would fit. Also possible a pair of SPC8 Wharfedale wich would be cheaper than a pair of Elan 15 . But two subs allready would take a little too much space in my room

Still not decided...money and space are important to me , anyway

What do you think about 2.1 integration ? There are mixed opinions about this from what I've read.

What, NO DIY? Shame on you. :D

OK, seriously now. The money you are willing to spend can go a long way towards a home built, and you'll have some left over. Is there no place by you that has complete sub kits. Something proven, with all the parts included?

2.1 is fine for filling in the bottom end. My computer/music system is that way. Sounds great.

:D Yes I had that idea , a fullrange Voigt tapered pipe with fostex 206 ...but I am too lazy , no tools and after all , probabaly it's going to cost me near the price of a pair of floorstanders .

I like my AR3a and Mach One together. Never, yet, heard better bottom end. But, that's me, already had the speakers, have the space (not much more than you), no reason to change. This is the man cave by the way.

That said, I also run HT in the living room. At one time had a sub, liked the potential, didn't like the solutions (that I tried). I am, however, warming up to the idea of 2.1 very much. I have Vienna Acoustic Haydn speakers which I too really enjoy, but with some material the woofers just can't handle some of the sources I run through them AND at higher volumes. Lack of bass, at times, keeps me from listening to them more, and they weren't cheap (for me anyway).

One good sub or a couple smaller potent subs would do the trick. There are kits you can by that merely require assembly and often not much in the way of tools. But, I don't know if such is available to you in GB. You'll know better.

Also, with any luck you might hook up with a fellow AKer out there that might be able to provide the tools, maybe even the place, to build a sub, or two. And you may only need to supply parts and a few pints, eh?

Cheers.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm gettin' lazy in my old age. :D

Sometimes, it's all up to how much time it'll take, or "I can afford this".

The only reason I mentioned DIY, was the way you described how happy you were with the boxes in your setup. Even a small sub would fill out the bottom end nicely, and so would a set of floor standers with the bottom end built in. Just 2 cabinets. No muss, no fuss. I get it.

Well, I can't make up your mind for you, only suggest. Before replacing your speakers, do you have a friend that has a sub you can borrow? This way, at least you get a taste of what can be done. Even if you go another route, you won't be thinking, "what if I had gone with"......... It sucks when that happens. Second guessing yourself.

Don't know what else to say except Good Luck. This is a tough one.

Computer wise the best 2.1 system I know of the the Klipsch Pro-Media 2.1. I had the not longer made Pro-Media 5.1 and it was fantastic.

:scratch2::scratch2:Question :
The m5 increase their bass (well kinda) response as I turn up the volume ,much better at volumes that I don't listen all the time .
If I'll choose one setting for the woofer I'll probably have to change it at every volume modification from the main volume knob , with the change of the bass response of the main speakers ,to keep an even response ?
