The person considering these should look up what it takes to repair them, as the likelihood of them needing at least minor repairs is pretty high. I found out the hard way about buying non-functional Magnepans.

Later models are more serviceable and most likely in much better shape.

I'm in the middle of doing a pair of these myself. It's a little time consuming, but so far has been surprisingly easy. Got the first one up and running last night, started tearing into the second one already.

The wiring kits and new socks from Magnepan cost me maybe $100. Well worth it..

As bshorey points out, the overall investment to get them back to really great condition is about $100 (rebuild kit and new socks), so if a pair can be had cheaply, you get a really nice set of speakers for not a big investment (other than your time/patience, of course).

Maggies have a BIG following and there are plenty of resources available on AK and elsewhere to assist in rebuilding them. Unlike many other speakers that require hard to find drivers/parts, as long as the mylar on MG-1's are intact, they can be rebuilt from either the Magnepan kit or, if inclined, locally sourced materials. These were my first attempt at rebuilding any speaker and I really adore my set.
