2 Subs 100ish (Each) What to Buy

Holiday Season is coming up.

I'm looking to add two sub woofers to my front room rig to complement my Heybrook HB3's ... I quite satisfied w/ these speakers but I'm thinking that 2 subs add some base resonance ... fuller sound.

Picture below is how my speakers look and can give you an idea of the type.

Suggestions? I was looking at these Polks

The cost of the sub will matter little if the room's acoustics don't favor LF reproduction. There are plenty of inexpensive (as well as expensive...and all points in between) subs out there that have been given a bad rap not because of their particular sonic characteristics, but instead because of how the room has influenced/limited what they are actually capable of delivering. So when considering the addition of a sub or subs to your rig be prepared to be disappointed if you 1) don't have much latitude wrt placement of the subs (which can only help to overcome some of the room's effects) 2) can't accommodate three to four as more subs will help overcome the room's influence...to a point, which leads to 3) if your room's acoustic characteristics (modal behavior, specifically) prevent a (somewhat) balanced reproduction of the subs' reproductive range (which is not at all uncommon). This is an area of reproduction where physics becomes brutal and merciless, though there are tools to help overcome the situation....but you won't find any of them in a dumpster, thrift or garage sale. If you want to do this right, there will likely need to be $$$ added to the budget. Not ridiculous sums, but added expense just the same. My silver bullet is this...

I have 2 of those Polk subwoofers and do not thing you can do better at that price. I bought my first one when I upgraded a HTIB setup in my TV room to a real surround sound receiver and speakers. I was so impressed with it that I bought a second one to play with distributed base in my "theater" room.

I have previously posted my thoughts of this sub, but it goes something like this. As a sub in a surround sound system, it does not reach as low as some might like for some LFE in movies although in my TV room, it is more than adequate. I have never noticed any distortion at medium-loud levels. Where I think this sub shines is its musicality. It actually sounds pretty good with music, and I have never liked music on a surround system. This sub made it quite listenable. It may not reach to the lowest frequencies of a movie, but it seems to handle the musical spectrum quite well. Adding the second sub to my existing system made a huge improvement in the sound of both movies and music.

Hard to go wrong with that Polk sub, could also consider a Dayton sub from Parts Express.
