$20 Fm alignment tool idea

So why can’t I pickup up one of those cheap fm modulators that are used to connect to a car radio with built in Bluetooth and play a tone through my phone to the tuner and adjust the cans for maximum output? Seems a lot cheaper than a $400 (at least) fm alignment generator.

May be a decent troubleshooting aid and might be able to rough in the RF and IF alignments. Without a calibrated output with an adjustable level you won't really be able to get the most out of it. You still need to generate a stereo left and right. To go further.

I have heard of people using those transmitters for alignment. Obviously it has limitations, but you could get by better than someone doing it by ear with a local station. I had an mp3 player that had an FM transmitter. I suppose You could make a test tone mp3 file. Mine had a limited frequency range, but you could work around that in most cases and get something working, just not peaked.

The problem is most folks trying to use these are trying it for the first time. They can work OK for modest efforts - if you know how to set it up, signals needed, procedure, etc.

You send L only, then R only files for stereo. You could easily use a standard PC built in sound card, and one of these cheap transmitters to get pretty far with a scope.

The PC can generate precise audio tones, and also do distortion via free FFT SW. The transmitter can be set to exact frequencies 88-108.
But, you have to put all that together, and know what to do - that's usually the missing link.

Hi, as write the German-speaking users who tested this, its parameters are worse than those of the previous model SUP2, in SUP3 more service options and the display is more interesting...
