200ma vs 250ma Dial Lamps

Does anyone use 8V 250ma fuse lamps as a substitue for the 8v 200ma lamps originally used for the dial lights in Marantz receivers? The bulbs are out in my 2226B and I have the 250s on hand but would need to order the 200s.

Opinions?

I like the 200ma, probably because I have hundreds on hand and that was the original spec, I've never seen the 250ma damage a Marantz, just the 300ma versions. Even if your Marantz used 8 fuse lamps, that would still only be an extra .4a load on the power supply, probably not enough to damage things, Dave.

Yeah, that rumor is out there. I stumbled into this while looking for information. It refutes that claim. I was wondering if anyone had personal experience.

On a different note, Nice Avitar. I have a copy of Surrealistic Pillow that I bought new when it was first released. It is a bizarre album.

The first time I saw that link it was in a discussion where folks were refuting -that- claim. I have no personal experience with this, but there were quite a few posts from folks saying they had damaged certain models of Marantz.

Just started rehabbing a 2325--tried to remove the panel lamp strip, and the lamp housing was melted into the lampholders.
Removed the dial scale, and "lo" the original lamps were still installed (F8).
So to add fuel to the fire, it doesn't appear that the 250ma lamps are the culprits for melting down the plastic lamp housings.
I have worked on quite a few receivers with absolutely no damage to the housings, and some with severe meltdown using the OEM lamps.
 
...just repaired a 2275. Looks like it got very little use. Original (200mA) lamps still in place, two of them were out, the plastic was melted! The receiver had no dust at all inside.So I guess it had poor ventilation, that's why the plastic melted even with the 200mA lamps

It would be interesting to know if those units with melted housings had lived their lives inside the wood case or not, as well as other cabinet related info. I don't like keeping them closed in at all....
