2020 Mid Atlantic Fall AK Gathering at Ohighway's.....cancelled.

Ohighway

Wannabe Minimalist
Earlier this year I mentioned trying to follow through with a get together at my home this fall. Based on a variety of circumstances including the recent passing of my father, and the ongoing COVID mess that's not gonna' happen.

Truth be known I may not host another as I am very seriously considering backing out of this hobby. EDIT: Ok thought about this overnight and I still will host in the future , even if I'm mostly "out" of the hobby. I like the people here and like hosting and having them gather here so.....

I understand, sorry about your dad. If you back out of this hobby there will be a huge sale and a lot of empty shelves at your place!
Be Well,
Jim

Sometimes a break is needed, Rick. I’m sorry to hear about your Dad, and that we didn’t catch up when you were in town.

I apologize for not seeing you when I was in town. We had mom and dad at their house trying to go through stuff to see what we could get rid of. Dad became a huge impediment to that project (didn't want to get rid of anything / started talking about wanting -everything- to be moved to our house) so we cut it short and went back home.

Thanks for letting us know, Rick. Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Keep us posted about your decision about the audio hobby, and I hope you will still attend local gatherings when they resume.

Thanks. It's mom I feel bad for now. She has dementia and keeps forgetting dad passed away. So I keep having to tell her and she keeps having to live the grief of finding out over and over and over again.

Yes, huge sale. Many are familiar with some of what I have. Time to start lining up for what you all find of interest. I will keep a few pieces ( likely some sentimental attachment things I"ve owned forever and/or higher end pieces) but ..... mostly I wanna' clean out.

Rick,

So sorry to hear about your dad. And to the lingering issue with your mom. You know all your care will be worth it when you finally look back, but in the moment its hard to see it that way.

Give me a call if and whenever you need to. I'm stuck at home with plenty of time, and will only have more as winter arrives. We can chat about whether our mismatched pairs of K-horns need any more shuffling. Or which items of your have my name on them!

Hope you can regain interest in old audio. Hope we can get together, even for a fast-food breakfast, if you don't. The current pandemic is brutally unpleasant, but the way I figure it we have successfully weathered almost half of the necessary isolation.

Hank

@hammr7 Thanks. Regarding dad it is sad, but it was time. (He just passed his 96th birthday earlier this month) I'm thinking mom will eventually get to a point of remembering he's gone.

Cannot remember where we left the Klipschorn discussions. I'll be in touch.

Truthfully I'll probably not actually ditch vintage audio entirely. I'm just overwhelmed right now and it gives me the feeling of wanting to shuck EVERYTHING. I'm sure I'll adjust.

Sorry to hear about your dad and issues with your mom. My grandma was in a similar state her last few years and it was not easy.

My apologies as well Rick for missing this and the unfortunate passing of your father. Please accept my belated condolences to and your family!

Yeah, thanks for that guys. It is sad but with him being 96+ years old, and his health having taken a significant hit over the past year it was not unexpected. He's truly in a better place at this point.

Mom finally did mentally catch up with the situation and adjust. For the first several weeks she was confused, and on edge..... .would never nap during the day like she normally did. Now she's calmer, back to napping, and no longer asks "where's your dad" .

Amy is retiring at the end of the year. We've got a lot to handle with clearing out and selling the place in Ohio..... and frankly doing a big cleanout here, consolidate vehicles, etc etc. to try and trim back a bit. Thankfully the house is as good as paid off at this point.
