2024 Mustang recall

My 2024 Mustang went in for the recall for possible water leaks into the body control module (could affect exterior lights, etc. if corrosion occurs).
I was set up to drive it in and get a free uber back and forth, but yesterday they offered valet service to have it picked up and returned. I suppose that helps them avoid late customers who mess up the shop schedule. The plus side is I got to hear it start and depart from outside, almost as much fun as driving it.

Picked up from my driveway ~ !0:30 a/m. and returned~ 4:30 p.m. Repair order says initial test showed no leak but repair was made (application of sealant to body seams). (Because failure is a safety issue).

Not that unusual an occurrence as more and more electronics and integration happens in modern cars.

Our 2009 Mini Cooper went in for a recall about 12 months ago. Sunroof drains prematurely aging and cracking allowing water to pour on the FRM (basically, their BCM) and causing corrosion/shorting.

Ours was still good, but they changed the drains out as part of the recall.

Water, electricity and electronics. Never a good mix…

New 2024 Mustang safety recall - defective ground lugs. (May be something like wire insulation extending too far?)
Recall says car may mave multiple defective ground lugs. Failures that can occur depending on which ground goes bad include loss of wipers or headlights, or worst of all, sudden engine shutdown. Parts for repair expected in December.

BCMs are the Devil!

A small or otherwise low current switch tells the BCM to turn on the lights, probably via a CAN bus. At the other end, probably another control module turns the actual lights on. I know on my wife's old car (Chevy Sonic), if you want to add fog lights, you have to have the computer re-programmed to activate that feature.

We all moan for the simplicity of old cars, but really, what happened to just a chunky switch to turn the lights on? I rewired my friend 55 Chevy and 37 Plymouth, both from scratch. The 55 was using a length of an old Police car wiring harness (the one that goes to the roof lights), and the 37 was with a harness from painless wiring or somewhere.

My 2017 Mustang still has an active recall for the rear view camera. They keep sending me letters saying they don't have the parts for it, but I doubt if I would get it done anyway. It seems to be working fine.

Our 2018 Honda Odyssey has the same issue. Dealers don't have enough parts to fix everyone's vehicle, so they mention that if the camera is working, just wait until it stops before bringing it in.
