2215b monoblocks?

I just got my 2215b serviced due to some distortion on the preamp inputs. I figured I would get it recapped while it was in the shop.

Talking to the owner of the shop about the unit, he said the tech indicated the 2215b has dual mono block amps for power. Has anyone else ever heard this or worked on one themselves?

He was very impressed with the unit and said it is definitely a keeper. I got it from my father-in-law who bought it new.

That makes no sense. Isn't a mono block so named just because it's a single channel unit in it's own enclosure? The amp board is both channels too, with the outputs right on the board/heatsink assembly. I do agree it's a sweet sounding unit and a keeper!

It definitely is not two monoblocks. It's a single power amp board with two amps on it, just like all of the other lower powered Marantz units. I'm not sure what he was referring to, but at any rate, it is still a great little receiver.

Have you looked at it or worked on one?

Marantz does have mono blocks in one cabinet design. SM-10 and Model 15 Power amps. They have two power cables at the back, true Mono blocks.

Mystery solved. I show up to the shop to get my 2215b and they come out with a Model 16 power amp, which does indeed appear top be dual mono. For some reason they got the two pieces confused when I called on the phone yesterday.

So this thread is pointless. Carry on.
