2220B phono issue

Yep I agree, I meant to say the circuit board is marked this way but my post above certainly did not read that way! o_O
 
Got it. I didn't realize I could look up the specks online of the old transistors. As it turns out the new ones are the same so I just need to match them up. happily I took pics (thanks for the tip!) to double check I have the flats on the transistor head facing the correct direction!

So I finished up with the transistors. Those 3 legged buggers a little harder to deal with and locate on the board from the back. That said it was worth the time and I'm happy to say after a quick test in the basement the 2220B is back in service again. Thanks everyone for the help this was a good first step! I also owned a 2270 that I bought a rebuild kit for sometime ago and now feel a little better about getting it started. One things for sure. I'll be printing at the board schematics. I found that helped.

Well if you get going on that 2270 and need some help I have focused on these for a while now and have done a few along the way, could be as many as 20 or 30 , I quit keeping track . I am happy to share anything I have learned or help if needed.
 
Scotteboy, cool I'm sure I will have questions. I bought the rebuild kit a few months ago from Randy at http://irebuildmarantz.com. This was before I found this site or doing this repair. I'm sure I could have bought all the parts and figured everything out myself but Randy seems to have a kit with most of whats needed. I'm sure someone like yourself who's done a bunch knows where the pit falls are and what needs to be replaced. The kit has you start with the power supply. I'm just about done with the Wall paper removal AKA "wall-paper-palooza" at the house so hopefully I can get started in the new year.
 
I have used Randy's 2270 kit and it is worth it, in my opinion, if you aren't doing a lot of these. His kit is very complete and he is always available to help if you hit a rough spot. Good luck with the 2270! :thumbsup:

I see 6 x 2sc1328 transistors, 2 x 2.2uf 25v capacitors, 2 x 22uf 25v capacitors, 2 x 47uf 16v capacitors and 1 x 100uf 50v capacitor all that should be needed. My error , no tantalums just these electrolytics and these transistors should be all that is needed in general. Just make sure to order from Digikey or Mouser as a general rule. Good luck ! Hello Scotteboy and thank you for this post. I am dealing with the same noise today. I wanted to ask you if you have a preference between the following transistors. They all seem to be low noise audio applications but when I check the datasheet, I realize that they use different method voltage and current to measure the noise level so I am wondering if anyone has had any experience or known one would work better in a phono preamp such as the 2220B model here, thanks.
They are:
1- 2N5088 or 2N5089
2- BC550C or BC560C
