2230 - right channel drops out

So I've had my 2230 about a year, it's been partially recapped and cleaned up (by someone else, I'm semi-terrible at this stuff). Recently the right channel has been dropping out. It can be brought back by pushing in the mono button a few times or by futzing with the headphone jack, but it's getting very annoying. I've been leaving a 1/4" adapter in there and just pushing it around when it goes out but that's not reliable (obviously). My repairman cleaned the mono switch and that held it for a few weeks, but it's gone out again. Any ideas from you guys? Another cleaning? Replace the mono switch? Is it even the mono switch at all?

Is the push button switches on the 2230 are like the ones on the 2250, they are no fun to disassemble and really clean well. There is a tutorial on pushbutton switch cleaning that is in the Marantz forum as a sticky. It's the reassembly part that's fidgety. There is enough room with the faceplate off and the toneboard out on my 2250 to get the straw from a can of deoxit into a couple tiny gaps in the switch without disassembling the switches. That's what I did after taking apart 2 switches and nearly losing the little retaining clips. I used a couple short sprays into any gap I could find in the switch bodies and operated the pushbuttons about 50 times each and they really seemed to be operating more smoothly afterward. The surface tension and capillary action should pull the deoxit into the space inside the switch and should get to the contacts.

I had the same issue, in my case was a dirty relay. A fellow member pointed it out as a common failure in a unit with this age. It can be cleaned, but it is also very easy to replace. If the pot and switch cleaning don't help, turn your radar to the speaker protection relay.

Thanks for the reply. I was looking through that thread and got very nervous about those springs and the general procedure. But if I'm reading you correctly, just remove the faceplate and get at the switches that way without actually disassembling them? Just go for those gaps?

Try giving ALL switches a good workout.
I had one driving me a little goofy until I cycled the TAPE MONITOR switch a few dozen times.
Cleared it up.

Clean every switch & contact where signal is present. This includes the Volume, Dubbing, Phones and rear panel RCA jacks.
