Ok, I've been all over the place trying to decide between a vintage Mac or vintage Marantz and, of course, which specific model. I'm at least getting closer:scratch2:
Code:
So, what are the sonic differences between the 2230 and 2230b, if any?
Thanks for all the help.

I have both. The 2230 is more solidly built, but the 2230B sounds better and has a better tuner. I like the full complimentary amp section and speaker protection relay in the "B" version.

If you are to restore the unit - Then I think the 2230 will take the price. These cap coupled units responds very well to a recap because the coupling caps typically suffers from frequency roll off, not only due to age, but also because the caps back then were expensive and very large in size, so often minimum acceptable values were used rather than optimum.

A new beefed up coupling set will bring out the best of cap coupling which is a more relaxed, rich tube like presentation.

Thanks. The two I'm looking at have been restored by a reputable shop, so your info is good to know.
