2230 Should I run to go get it???

I have a line on picking up a 2230.
I currently own and love my recapped 2265.

However, I read sooooooo much on here about the 2230 that I'm curious what the opinions are on the differences between these 2 models .........should I drop everything a RUN to go scooop up a listing I found for a 2230 ?? (wood case included, power button is missing however the guy says it is stuck "on" when he plugs it in.....so this will need to be restored).

thanks in advance!

If the price is low enough that you could sell it if you don't like it and break even, go for it. The sound will be similar to the 2265 but less power. I personally would keep the 2265 & not worry about the 2230. Jmo.

I agree, you're not going to hear significant levels of sound difference. A little more cleaness in the upper registers making the 2265 sound a little more livelier. Where as the 2230 tend to sound a tad on the dark side.

See if the cases are the same and use it for the 2236. the 2230 is nice but between the two the 2265 would be better. However I would like to have a 2230 as a back up or for the right price.

Well, if the 2230 isn't LEAPS AND BOUNDS better ...... then I think I'm gonna pass......it's an 1 1/2 hour drive on a holiday weekend and I'm really happy with my 2265 although the wood case would be sweet.....
I Think I'll post the listing so someone closer to where it's at can grab it. The guy said he didn't even have speakers to let me hear it so it could be a long drive for nothing on my end if it won't produce any sound.

Thanks for the replies!

While I like the look of the wood cases; does anyone besides me feel they make the receivers, or amps, run hotter??? Not a good thing , right?

I think with the wood cases the metal case is usually removed. So you should have more ventilation.

As for the 2230 not being leaps and bounds better - true. They all sound good for what they are. But not a level up the audio ladder, so to speak of.

That's what I've always wondered .....reading all the post romancing all over the 2230 like it was from a completely different stratosphere on the Marantz Hierarchy.
Thanks again.

My unrestored 2285 sounds much better to me than my restored 2230. The 2230 looks cheap to me compared to the 2285. It doesn't have the white dots in the dial and the knobs look cheaper. I like the 2285's hex bolts on the face better than the phillips screws on the 2230. I like the 2230, but I love the 2285.

I have both, a 2265 that was my uncles, and a 2230 I picked up for the office....the 2265 to my ears sounds better, clearer, more dynamic on the highs. I also like the flexibility in the tone controls of the 2265 over the 2230, where the '65 has the ability to center the "knee" of curve for the bass control lower (IIRC ~100hz) and the treble higher (IIRC ~10khz). the 2265 has a second monitor loop for adding additional sources....I like the styling of the 65 better as well.

the wood case is the same for both, I'm using the wood case from my uncle's 2265 on my 2230 in my office.
