2230b alone or Phono preamp too?

Hello all. Just wondering if you think the 2230b has a strong enough phono section that it would be redundant to also add a nice phono preamp as well? I have recapped the whole receiver and used high quality Nichicon electrolytics on most of the phono board and also some Wima film caps. Just not sure if it would be a benefit or not. Any advice or ideas would be awesome! Thanks, J.

ive found all my vintage marantz phono stages to be excellent and equal to my Rega Fono that retails for $400 and you probably would need to spend quite a bit to improve on it if you are sticking with MM carts and depending on what cartridge you are using that might not even improve. a tube phono pre would give give you a different sound that you may or may not like, i prefer it myself. if you want to try a MC cartridge then you could get a phono pre with MC or you could buy another cartridge instead and improve things or at least have a little variety.

Awesome. Thanks for the info Chrisxo55441. I really appreciate your descriptive analysis. That helps me decide on whether to spend my money on additional carts or other gear instead. J.

you bet. whats the rest of you system? FYI you get better reply's if you post your entire system with your questions. you can add it to your signature

Thanks again Chris. I have updated my info. Looking at a new turntable now.
I have the Marantz 2230b with I recapped this year. I have Klipsch KG-4 speakers with Bobby Crites crossover boards and new titanium tweeters. I will update my site with pics in a moment. Best to you. Jeff.

KG-4's should go great with the 2230b. ive got the crites upgrades in mine as well and they sound fantastic im using them as the rear speakers in my Quad set up now ( 4140 ) with my Fortes as the fronts.

I really like them. They are so pleasant to listen to and look at. Having a blast!
Forte’s are really cool too. I don’t have the room for more. I also have a wife.....hahahaha! (The fun police).
