2235B Power Button Malfunctioning

SUB08

Well-Known Member
The power button on my 2235B just started to screw up today. Now, when I push in, it still locks in like normal, but the power won't stay on unless I push the button further forward.

From what I've read in other threads, this means the power switch is probably bad and should need replacing, right? Is replacing this as easy as soldering out the old unit and soldering in the new one?

What is a good resource to get a decent quality power switch for cheap? I already contacted dgwojo, but I'm not sure if he still sells these.

Just that easy- yes he does, I got one for my 2235 from him- you will need a replacement button with a square end instead of the slot if it's factory. The new production switches have a square shaft.

A button with a square end? Will I still be able to use the same cap? I'm confused.

Do you want to trade for your 150? :D

150 tuner?

The cap on yours if factory will have a slot- the new switches are square so- you will need a button that is common to the loudness, or fm muting or or or- they are all square.

Right, but is the button itself still round? Just the part where it connects to the back of the button is square?

Yeah your tuner. I'm jealous and want one.

Yes the button is still round, the female end that pushes onto the switch will need to be square.

I'll pm you some info for a scope tuner.

Ok that makes sense. Does dgwojo also have the square button? Or do I need to get that from somewhere else?

Don't buy the "marantz oem" button off of ebay, it's not oem, it a copy with a concave end and is a fake. You'll need to figure out what length you need, on ebay there are a couple of switches with LONG buttons, some are short- dgwojo may be able to help you choose the right one.

My advice- install the new switch, remove one of the buttons on the unit and try it. It it's too short you'll know by how far in it sits with power on. I know cause I bought the fake at it was too short.

Does anyone know the mounting screw spacing for the 2235B? dgwojo has 18mm and 20mm available, but he said that some of the B models use 26mm spacing. I'll check my receiver later tonight if I don't get a response.

Of all things...for durability's sake, and if absolute exact original appearance is not all that important...I used to use a specific vacuum cleaner power switch to replace the quick-to-wear-out Marantz switches. Many customers had Marantz receivers that were not factory-pristine, or they didn't mind a slightly different-looking silver pushbutton. With a twelve-amp rating, those switches would never fail in a Marantz application.

I'm looking to keep the cosmetics as original looking as possible. This is because I plan on selling this at some point, once I find something better.

Ok it looks to be 20mm spacing.

I removed the bottom cover of the receiver to check out the push switch. It appears to be functioning ok mechanically... How can I tell if something is wrong with the switch or if it just needs cleaning? I just sprayed some more deoxit on it.
