2238 Lamp Issue

Hi Everyone, I wonder if you can help me with an issue I'm having with a 2238 that I recently purchased.

All the lamps do not work (zero light whatsoever from the whole unit), and so I read a forum from a few years ago on a 2238B that had the same issue (https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/2238b-all-lights-out-at-same-time.432361/).

The solution for his unit was replacing fuse F702. On mine (not the B model) I tried this today by replacing the two fuses behind the tuner dial marked F801 and F802. The only light that came back on was the Stereo light and nothing else.

I know that there are some differences between my model and his and so I'm wondering if anyone can help point me in the right direction. I'm a novice at this so any help is greatly appreciated!

The dial and meter lamps are powered by 7.7V AC from a dedicated tap on the transformer. In the 2238, it passes through the P800 board, and F802. You should have 7.7V AC at the input side of P800 between J803 and J804. And also on the output side (after passing through the fuse) at J809 and J813. If you have voltage there, then test where that connects to the dial lamp board at JZ11 and JZ12. If you have AC there, then either all bulbs are out (it happens) or there is a bad connection/trace on the PZ01 dial lamp board. The fuse must be good, because 7V DC splits off of that AC line to power the stereo light, and it's after the fuse.
 
Usually in the old Marantz's all the dial and meter lamps have burned out a while ago.
You didn't say if you tested or even looked at the filaments in the fuse style lamps.
They look like fuses but they are not so be careful when you install new ones.

Thanks Steven and wlhd, I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know what I find. Super novice question but how do you know by looking at a filament lamp that it's gone bad?

Like any small bulb, it will usually be a bit blackened in the middle, and you probably can see the thin broken filament inside. The sure test is a continuity test with a DMM, or just put a new bulb in it and see if it works.
