2252b versus 140 amplifier

hello,

my significant other really does not like the "looks" of my current 2252b tuner. i currently have my squeezebox3 hooked through it and i am using some onix x-ls speakers. my question(s) is this:

would an marantz 140 amp be an upgrade in sound? i think she might go for the look of this because its a bit more simplistic looking compared to all the pretty lights on the 2252b tuner.

just wanted to get some opinions.

thanks a lot.:thmbsp:

hey
it would all depend on the preamp (the "sound" is determined by the preamp IMO) - the 140 is power only, the juice!! how could he/she not like the looks of the 2252B? :scratch2: it's beauty! mine serves as my pre amp for my 250. together, they are blissful!:thmbsp:

Well, I really love the look of the 2252b, but do not know hot it sounds with my ears...

The 140 is the amp section of the 2270. Mine sound like a champ, and is beautiful: rhaaaa, the two big blue eyes !

thanks for the info.

i am a COMPLETE newbie to all things stereo! so basically... i should be able to use my squeezebox3 with the 140? the squeezebox3 has a decent dac from what i have read. i would assume the sound would be ok.

(anyone got one for sale? :) )

thanks again!:thmbsp:

The beauty of the 140 and other Amp from this ages, is the "gain control". You can load them with a cdp or any high level source, a squeezebox if you want.

Plug the amp into an outlet on what ever you plan to use for a pre. When you turn the pre on the amp comes online as well.

Happy Thanksgiving,

My advice.....get rid of the woman....not the Marantz.

I'm not joking.....if you spend the rest of your life with this person she needs to develop an appreciation or at least a tolerance for the things you like. If not, it is your funeral.

I have those pieces and have tried all kinds of configuration looking for sonic nirvana. I had the 140 connected to a 3300 preamp. It sounded good. I connected my 2252B to my preamp and it sounded good. I currently have the 140 connected to my 1060 and , you guessed it, it too sounds good. The only difference I can tell between the amps in the 140 and the amp section of the 2252B is that the 140 has more headroom. Not liking the looks of the 2252B is something I will never understand, but each to their own, right. The 140 should work just fine with what you are trying to do. Now, if your girlfriend doesn't like those cool blue power meters...
