2265 production Date Stamp

I noticed what I thought was a manufactures date stamp under the cover of my newly acquired 2265.
This date appears on the top right hand side just under the top cover .......76-12-23....... (or...this is "not" a date?)

The Marantz Legendary Archive site reports this receiver being produced from 1977-1979....
So this one was probably a very early production model based on the date?

Yeah, more than likely it was a early production one being made to go on to shelves around the world because when companies bring out a new product they have to load up on supply and then send the supply out to the retailers.

I've had Marantz before and they all have a date on them.

I didn't see any sarcasm in that post. December 23rd, 1976 is pretty damn close to 1977, so I wouldn't doubt the date.
