2270 and wood cases

I have a marantz 2270 i'm looking to sell, but it does not have a wood case. If I were to make a wood case (copied from the original) for it, would that increase the value of the receiver, even thought it wouldn't be an original? Personally, I wouldn't care, but I think the wood cases make these receivers look so much better.

If your reproduction was as good as the original, you would likely get $100 more. However, IMO your effort will not be rewarded as much as you think.
 
Well, i'm laid off right now so i've got lots of time on my hands and the wood for it shouldn't be more than 30 bucks or so. It was just a thought.

Actually, a very good idea. Matching the metal grill will be the only problem, IMO. If your cabinetry is really good, you could get more than $100 over market but the 2270 itself needs to be in great shape as well.
 
Wow that stuff isn't too cheap. I was thinking on taking a wire mesh wastebasket and cutting it up and painting it black.
 
If you really want to make some extra money keep your Marantz and just make the wooden cases. Those things go for up to close to $200! Although some go for as little as $40 - YMMV.
I've been searching for a deal on one for my 2325 but that's just not likely to happen and I fear soon I'll have to bite the bullet.

Compare completed auctions for similar units with and without cases, may not be worth your while.
