2275 matching components?

Here are my Q's to qualify me as a complete novice...

What are the appropriate coordinating components to suite with the 2275?

If I get a TTcart that requires a preamp, do I need a separate pre amp, or will the 2275's handle that?

If I get a separate pre amp, what is the matching one?

Is a 3200 a quality pre amp? Would it be ok racking up below the 2275? It looks right...

Having never dealt with a pre amp, I'm confused...;-)

You are good with just the 2275, it doesn't need a preamp. Marantz really didn't make preamps that match the receivers. They are for power amps, like the 170DC, 500, etc. Your 2275 has everything you need to hook up a TT, cassette deck, reel to reel, whatever you might have. And if you want to go with separates someday, the 3200 is a good pre amp, just don't need it now.
 
That's what I thought, but until you hear it from the AK members mouth...;-)

I just wasn't sure if these cart's that require a pre amp may somehow need some separate source for whatever reason???? I don't own one, never seen one...so...

I'm sure I will look back and see how silly some of these q's were one day LOL!

Funny I'm looking to trade my 3650 preamp FOR a 2275

You really DON'T need a preamp for the 22xx receivers. Just restore what you have or consider seperates. Separates are better in most respects. but than again Marantz did make a some of the best receivers. And a good receiver or integrated can be just as good at times.

Am waiting to hear from Tom to see if we can work something out to have him restore my 2275.

But why do some cart's require a pre amp then though? How doees that work?

At the top of this page click on Your Notifications, you have a private message.

All magnetic phono carts need a pre amp. The most prevalent types are moving magnet and the pre amp in your Marantz is designed for these. Moving coil types need either a step-up transformer or an out board pre amp since their output is much smaller.

Also Red Wing, quite a few folks say "phono amp" when talking about amplifying the signal from a turntable cartridge and "preamp" when talking about amplifying audio signals in general.

Your 2275 has an amp, a preamp, a phono amp, and a tuner all built into one unit - a receiver.

"Separates" just means a separate component for each of these functions. "Integrated" means amp and preamp built into one.

Some preamps have phono amps built in, some don't. Pretty much all receivers have a phono amp built in.

OnePixel: I have a thorens td160, and I am not, and never really was a big fan of tapes...but maybe a cd player for convenience would be ok, did marantz make an older cd player that looked cool with the vintage stuff?
