2275 Needs Fix-up

I was thinking about doing my mom a favor and repairing, or getting repaired, her 2275 that's been out of service for a while. It plays sound through both channels, but here's what's wrong:

* Constant hum
* Loud static-type sound comes and goes randomly (sounds like the ocean)
* Loud static-type sound when "tone mode" knob is moved
* Loud "pop" when "tone mode" is changed, sometimes
* Constant hum gets very loud when selector is turned to AM, sometimes

These problems exist through both channels, and both sets of speakers. The "low filter" and "hi filter" functions act upon the hum and static, but the loudness and others seem not to. That's all I can figure out. Basically my question is, does this receiver need a thorough cleaning/deoxing, or does it need real repairs? Thanks.

Hum & pops indicate repair, caps or transistor issues. Worth the $$ to fix tho..that's for sure.

He has a nice and informative site, but I question his use of Ratshack cleaner/lube and the use of NTE transistors with the leads crossed over each other. There are better solutions in both cases.
I think I would send it to Fred, if I were in CA.

I have taken a couple of my units over for service to Fred at Classic Audio Repair.

Nice guys, great work, can't go wrong taking it there.
