2275 - solution for problem hot resistor

2275 receiver...

here's my solution for the problematic hot resistor on the power supply board

150 kohm ceramic resistor, long leads covered in 3 layers of heatshrink tubing... a small black heatsink mounted to resistor using some heatsink compound in between, then secured along edges using 5-minute epoxy ...

some tin foil attached to the rear and bottom surfaces (only) to reflect heat away

bacically, am trying to draw heat away and upwards -- and away from those poor capacitors that otherwise get cooked by this very hot resistor sitting right on the board, only a few millimeters away (!!!)

the heatsink becomes hot to the touch, so it's working!

hope this helps someone?... also interested in what others have done???

see pics below
thanks

Hmmmm......that works.

You could also get one of the dale higher wattage aluminum bodied resisters, but what you did works.

I have not measured before/after temp of the close-by caps, but before, they just sat there in a bath of radiant heat

see pic below of the *original* unit before I restored it... and yes, those caps did show long term effects of heat, esp. the one a few millimeters beside it... btw, that resistor gets very hot, you can barely touch it

Just for curiosity's sake how about measuring the voltage across that resistor and posting the value. With that the current draw of the resistor can be calculated and (btw) those Dale resistors are a great replacement although finding a proper way to mount it might be a bit of a puzzle.

Huh, pretty cool! Made me think of those new chip set coolers on computer motherboards. The ones with copper tubes running from a plate on the chip to a heat sink located a few inches away. Might work also!
