2285 vs 2285B?

I have a 2285 I picked up at a yard sale a few months ago. After some cleaning and replacement of the lights it is now in good condition and looks and sounds wonderful. I have looked for information on the 2285 and find it in short supply as compared to info on the 2285B. There are many cosmetic differences between the models but has anyone out done a side by side sound comparison between the two? And why is info on the 2285 so scarce?

Looks like the 2285 was only made in 1977, the 2285B 77-80.They seem to have the same features just a different aesthetic. I have the 2285B and it has plenty of power. No I have not heard them side by side though.

Is the 2285 a dual power supply design? If not that would be a pretty big difference right there.

I haven't had much luck finding info on my 2285 either. Please post up links to whatever sources you can find - I'd be very interested to see what's out there I missed.

Superficially, the two units seem very similar, except for that the 2285B is silver-dialed and the 2285 blue-dialed. The B also option for Dolby and two phono inputs. To me, the 2285 has a more "dated" look with the slider balance control.

On the 2285, I never liked the tacked on aluminum accent for the button labels.

I always thought that Marantz was suckface, but now that I've got an amp and pre amp by them, they're growing on me...


Or maybe I'm just young and impressionable.
