The topic of important album covers has been covered numerous times before, of course - there was a story on my local PBS/NPR affiliate a few weeks back - but I thought this little article was entertaining, so here you go for your perusal!

Too bad with the advent of digital downloads, buying albums for the artwork and thrill of listening from the biginning to the end is now disappearing. Sad.

How did Alice Coopers "School's Out" not make the list? The cover that turned into a desk, with flip-up lid, complete with a pair of panties wrapped around the album itself, this package was the cat's ass, IMNSHO! :thmbsp:

One of the great mysteries of my youth was what was inside all those gatefolds.........

Interesting article. Not terribly well thought out or backed-up.

I'm not really a proponent of "The Beatles Were The Greatest!" school of thought, but "Yesterday and Today" (the original, wherein artists attempt to mold their image in direct conflict with the marketing department) and "The White Album" had a much greater impact than most of what was listed.

"Dark Side of the Moon" pales as an influential jacket compared to "Umma Gumma".

But it's just a list and an opinion (though probably an MFA thesis as well).
