2SC537E Transistor Sub?

I have a nice working Sherwood 7100. But the dang stereo indicator light will not work. Bulb good. According to the schematic transistor 2sc537e is part of that circuit. Generally if I bother to pull a transistor, I replace it due to their age. But I don't see any modern substitute. I do have 2sc537G in stock.
So two questions. What is a readily available substitute. What is the significance of the last letter? Voltage?
