Just compared these sweet oldies side by side.
You're gunna hate me, but the total price I paid for all 3 sets...$81.

(the very rare) Toshiba SS-36
LANCERS: The soundstage on the lancers is astounding, and a bit weird. Different from any speaker I've heard (and that's a lot). The full range speaker is so VERY good! Love these and will never part with them. I originally had them 6 feet apart with no toe-in. So interesting that way. You tilt your head 1 inch and the sound speeds around nearly behind you.
I'd never heard anything like it. If you ever get a chance...
Realistic: Clean, clear, though the top end is a little 'less' compared to the Toshiba's. (I'm sure it's because the Toshiba''s have a horn). Takes a little more juice to match volume with the other two sets. A great quality speaker.
Toshiba: Bought these locally off CL. Guy listed them wrong. I jumped on the chance. The cabinets are rough, but I took
them to a local speaker guru, and he De-Ox's the controls, Installed braces, replaced 8 capacitors, and added foam.
My God, what amazing sound. Looks like these babys (which were never imported to the US) were made back when Toshiba put their all into build and sound quality. 1969 I think.
Now I have some Infinity Quantum 4's and some high end B&W's, so I do know good quality sound. Some day I'll compare the Toshiba's to those (but I have to lug them upstairs).
