35 Year Old NIB Garage Sale Find

I joined AK looking for a member named "Beej." He sent me disassembly instructions that allowed me to clean and repair the speed throttle on my Pioneer PL-5! I always remembered what he said about the PL-9 being the top of the line of the vintage Pioneer single digit turntables. Well, Saturday I was out garage selling with my wife, half-heartedly looking for some vintage vinyl in good shape. On one table sitting by itself was the box marked Turntable and NEW. The word "NEW" peaked my interest. When I started opening it up, the inside flap read PL9! Brand new in the box. Still had shipping screws securing the platter and plastic guard over the cartridge. Mint condition! I offered her $20 since she didn't know if it worked. She accepted! It works!!! It sounded great, I also remembered what he said about mounting a high compliance cartridge on an ultra low mass tonearm. I matched PL-9 with a Shure M97Xe cartridge. The TT went from great to MAGIC!
