4000 sound not as full

Just got back my 2000x and the sound on it is so much fuller when compared to my 4000. More mids, bass etc when doing a 1:1 comparison with all audio setting equal. The 2000x just had some capacitors replaced.

Could weak capacitors be a culprit to why the 4000 lacks the punch of the 2000x? Could other easy to fix items perhaps need updating on the 4000 to being it up to the 2000x?

I prefer the aesthetics of the 4000 to the 2000x and from what I read the 4000 is typically he'd in higher regard.

Thoughts?

Hi ArizCatz, I'm in the same boat. My 771 kicks my 4000's ass. Much more punch and fuller sound. The 771 has been partly recaped and the 4000 is stock. I hope to get around to servicing the 4000 this year. Mark

The 4000 is pretty punchy with some good bass - It could simply be out of adjustment, but yes - run down caps could be a reason too, although that typically wont rob the bass, but rather make the low end less punchy and defined.

Thanks KingBubba, I adjusted the gain dial and it helped. Then I saw the "mute" dial. Anyone know the recommended settings for the two dials? And yes i'd say the lower/mids were less defined more that less punchy. Thanks M in L
