$500 for Sansui sp-3500

A friend in LA has a pair of Sansui SP-3500 that he is selling for $500 (with an offer to pony express to the SF Bay Area). Is this a good deal? I’m not really in need of these but I’m curious if $500 is a fair price that could be at least mostly recouped if i decided to resell in the Bay Area.

I've not heard these speakers and I'm not familiar with the CA speaker market. Based on completed Ebay sales that price seems high. There is a pair on your local CL for $350. You mention you don't really need them, and large speakers can be a tough sell if you should find you want to resell them. Vintage Sansui speakers have their fans here. Someday I'd like to find a local inexpensive pair to hear for myself how they sound.

The SP-3500 was one of Sansui largest selling speaker, very rugged and hard to damage. There is always a pair of SP-3500s on SF CL, if not this week next week you'll see a pair. They generally sell for under $400 and closer to $300 for a nice pair.

No as mentioned above, the price is too high.

There is a pair on SF CL right now for $350, they are not in the best condition and will most likely sit at that price.

Man....I think I gave 20 bucks for mine. I don't consider 500 a good deal, but your results may vary. Pretty cabinetry, but I wasn't impressed with the sound.

That is what I thought too. In my friend’s defense, he said he would give his friends a better deal. I told him that I would pass and wished him good luck on his sale.

There are about a million different & better sounding speakers out there for less money.

For those looking for these I'm thinking $300 in very good condition locally.There is the collectable factor and the sq factor that determines what people want or will pay.
