551 meter lamp/signal meter

Was just given my fathers sansui 551. I just cleaned pots, and it sounds great but the signal meter and meter lamp are not working. Im a newbie to this scene and could use some help as to where/how I should start trouble shooting this problem. Do I need to find parts or is there something I can do to fix it before I go that route? Thanks!
