'59 Motorola SK14M

Hi all. I just recently bought a 59 Motorola SK14M, no tuner, my question about it, is that the power on this one runs through the on-off-reject switch of the record-player, with out it on and platter turning I can't play through Aux or Tape, is this correct. If it is correct, is there away to jumper around the record-player switch?? Thanks Bill

Welcome and yes, the power to the amp likely runs through the switch on the record changer. It can be bypassed or replaced with another switch. Motorola used a few different wiring harnesses back then so it would be best if you posted a picture of what you've got.
Also post the HS number of the amp chassis.

I would think that if this model has tape or aux inputs, it should have a separate on/off switch somewhere other than at the turntable switch. Do any of the controls pull out or push in?

If not, then you would have to find out which wires to jump to add an on/off switch, and of course you would use the turntable inputs for your ipod or aux.

On second thought, based on the pics that are linked in this thread, there is a power switch on the Balance control.

This one does have the tuner, but I would think since yours has Aux and Tape inputs, it would also have the same type of power switch.

Btw, this looks like one heckuva stereo rig. A push-pull 6BQ5 amp with large output transformers, this one would give the fabled Magnavox 9300 a run for its money. And this was just before Motorola went all-in with the 3-channel console stuff (often with smallish transformers). This one should shake the floor joists. Much like those mono 6V6 consoles they made at the end of the mono era, but times two!

Here are some pics. Now I can't get it to power on at all, even with the TT on,the balance control is a power switch, but before with the TT off it wasn't turning the power on? Slightly confused. Thanks Bill.
 
So does the balance control have the push/pull on/off switch? If yes and it still doesn't power up, it could be a blown fuse. Do you have a volt meter handy?

I can't really tell by your pics but I believe that that is like the one I repaired a few months back and it had a fuse soldered in place under the amplifier chassis.

If that is the same 2 channel amplifier I worked on, it is one of the more desirable Motorola amplifiers out there.
 
Thanks Cademan, it's like most switches, turn to the right it click on, and then ajust the balance with it. I've notice on the pre-amp, they are three wires that run from the power balance switch, to the function switch ( phono, riaa, aux, tape), on the bottom, top, if you have it apart, there's another switch of some type piggybacked with standoffs on to it, the three wires coming out of the power balance switch are solder to it, that piggybacked switch clicks "on" when the switch is turned to aux, tape. I'll check for a fuse on the amp, thank you, Bill, I'll post some pics of it a little later, still thinking the switch on the TT might have something to do with it, with the TT on, the power balance switch works, turns off and on, with the TT off the switch does not work. It might also depend on where the Function switch is set. On some of those, the whole set would turn off after the last record played when it was on Phono, regardless of where the Balance switch was set. But on any other function besides Phono, the Balance switch prevailed.

Did you try powering it on with the Function set to Aux or Tape?
