6060 receiver with Classique S-1500 speakers?

I'm a vinyl enthusiast but a novice when it comes to electronics and vintage gear. I was given a Sansui 6060 receiver as a gift and found a pair of S-1500 speakers at a garage sale that I've been using with a newer receiver.

I'd like to use the 6060 with the S-1500s, but when I hook them up I get no sound. It looks like maybe the wattage/ohms don't match up, but I know nothing about this stuff. Just wondering if there is a way to get them working together, or if not what speakers would be recommended for this receiver. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks.

If there is no sound using the 6060, but the same speakers work fine with a new receiver, you're doing something wrong, or the 6060 is defective and/or not being used correctly. Are you setting it to speakers A, and are the tape monitor is set to source, and the amp/preamp jumpers are in place? Also, make sure you're connected securely to the speaker terminals on the 6060.

Thanks so much for your reply.

It is set to speakers A and the speaker wires are connected securely to the terminals on the 6060. Is the tape monitor button set to source pushed in or out? I've tried it both ways and still no sound. Also, I do not have an amp/preamp or amp/preamp jumpers. Do I need an additional piece of hardware here? Forgive my ignorance - as I say, I'm a novice with all this. Thanks again!

If not blowing fuses, there is a good chance it is an easy fix. Signal goes everywhere in the preamp so make sure you have tried all the settings and switches. Suspect the Dolby adaptor switch is in the open position. Get yourself a can of residue free contact cleaner. Deoxit is not necessary. Clean the controls. Do your testing with throwaway speakers.

Thanks, I will do that. I just noticed there is a signal meter above the power switch. This is getting not reading anything when the turntable is playing a record. Should something be registering there and making that needle move?

Do you hear a relay click from inside the receiver a few seconds after powering it on?

Rob

Then it's not coming out of protection and you wont have sound.

Were any fuses blown?

Just got it opened up and yes, it looks like one or two are blown. Do all the fuses need to be to the exact specifications on the board? I see this has some that are 125V 5A, 250V 2A, and 250V .15A. I'm going to run down to the hardware store and just not sure how good of selection they will have. Thanks for your help!

yes, fuses should always be the same spec as they are designed to blow quickly under a specific load for that particular circuit.
Substituting larger fuses could be disastrous if the fuse is heavy duty and does not blow then things on the circuit board will take the hit which could get costly real quick. Fuses are cheap so buy extras as you will most certainly burn thru a few on your way in to getting the 6060 up and running.
Thanks! I found the 5A and 2A but need to replace the 0.15A and having trouble finding that one anywhere in town. Any suggestions of where to find that specific fuse?

I find local hardware stores don't seem to stock low current rating fuses any more, I guess because low current circuit protection is done differently now, however 'Mouser' or 'Digikey' can usually be relied upon to stock that kind of thing.

Are you sure you aren't looking at meter and dial lamps - which look like fuses but are actually bulbs / lamps.

I can only find 2A and 5A fuses in the 6060 - no 150mA at all.......

Good call, that sounds a lot like a lamp rating.

I checked the schematic... this one has a speaker protect relay. When you turn it on in a quiet room, after a several seconds there should be the click of a relay. Is there?

The internal fuses listed in the schematic seem to be different for 220 volt versus 110 volt units.
a quick scan of the schematic and all I see is 2/3 amp and 5 amp, nothing .15
That's weird, even on the board next to the fuses it says "0.15A". I replaced all the fuses and used a 1A fuse in that spot. I think I heard that relay click someone had mentioned once the fuses were replaced and the 6060 is working great now with my turntable and the S-1500s! I found some 0.15A fuses on eBay, so I could order or maybe the 1A fuse would be fine? I don't want to hurt the receiver by using the wrong amperage there, but then again it sounds like the schematics don't even show something with that amperage so maybe it's going to be fine?

Thanks to everyone on the thread, it's been very helpful!

send a photo of the board where it shows the 0,15A fuse

Cool, those aren't on the schematic. Looks like it is a fuse in the protection circuit. Typical Sansui to have things in the amp which aren't in the schematic. Happy you got it going!
