The Tung Sol reissues sound great in my Erhard Audio Aikido also.
Holder doesn't offer that preamp anymore. Must not have been enough sales.
It took a few hours for them to settle in, but once they did I just left them in the preamp. I've been happy with them.
They didn't sound as good as the 6H8C's in my VTA amp though.

Opps! I have Reflektor 6H9C's, (6SL7), not the 6H8C (6SN7).
I thought I still had some 6H8C's, but those left here in another amp.
All I have left are some Tong Sol 6SN7's.
 
Were they marked like these?
According to chart posted earlier, those may be considered as made by Reflector in Saratov but they were actually made by Foton in Tashkent. My birthplace btw.

I believe that Reflektor absorbed Foton plants. Or something similar. Foton made earlier 1960-80s mil-spec tubes. Some are very good.

If I remember correctly, there was a transition between FOTON and Reflektor, where Reflektor took over FOTON production.

There was confusion in some early 2010s Net threads about this when a flood of early FOTON-made mil-spec tubes were sold on eBay.

Anyhow, both the Reflektor and FOTON mil-specs are excellent tubes.
 
The best sounding 6H8C tubes are the metal base hole plate out of the Moscow factory (MELZ), best are the black plate 70's ones..

I had some red base ones out of Novosibirsk that were nice, but not as good as the above.

With custom builds, those of limited B+ for instance, the 6P15P-xx is a fine substitute. Triode gain between 6p14 and 6P15 is essentially identical. The 6P15 has a separate pin for the suppressor so they are not necessarily a plug and play switch( unless pinned properly, but with a custom... ). I am treating mine to loading with EL84 output transformers and 300V of B+ U-L and have not had issues so far... :)
