6N1P Internal Shield

I'm designing a circuit using this tube as a DC-coupled cathode follower. Is the internal shield an inert element? Can it be satisfactorily decoupled with a capacitor to ground, say 0.1uF, rather than a direct connection? I've heard of odd symptoms occurring in the higher-gain 6N2P when the shield is left floating, so I don't want to do that. Decoupling with a cap would allow substituting a few Western tube types without rewiring the filament if that proves advantageous in the future.

I've decided to ground the shield through a 10K resistor. That will keep the shield at ground potential, but yet won't flow excessive current if a tube is used that has its filament CT connected to pin 9 (such as a 6AU7). The other possible Western subs I'm familiar with, like the 6CG7, don't use pin 9, so no problem there. Even plugging in a 12AU7 won't damage anything, it just won't light up (much).
