7070 problem

i picked up a 7070 at a flea market a few weeks ago for cheap , all the lights work , everything seemed ok but when i went to change the input selector the input selector lights would change but the actual input would not .the dolby nr/adapter input is the only input i can get to work . i have a cdp hooked into that input and it sounds great , but no other input will work .do i need a new selector switch or can this one be fixed ? by the way , i love the sound of this sansui . it is actually the first sansui i remember ever hearing ,and if this is an example of a mid-fi sansui i would seriously consider trading my sx-1250 for a g 8 or 9000 .if that would be considered an even trade, just a thought .but any thoughts on my 7070 would greatly appreciated .

You're hooked on the Sansui sound, you've taken the first step in your journey to our side..:D. I can't help with your tecnical difficulties I'm afraid but I can say that many of us who have yet to get past a 6060 would love to have a big G or 7070...be patient and it will come. I have a 6060 and G5000 and they sound fab...I'm not sure I'd give up the SX1250 when if your patient you can have them both...:thmbsp:. Good luck and welcome to the dark side:smoke:!!!

yea, it would be nice to find a big sansui and be able to keep my 1250 ,but that 7070 seems so much cleaner and punchier than than the pioneer , although the 1250 is nice and has more head room . i guess i just want to really hear a sansui that has more power .

Butch, the shaft for the function switch may have walked out of the knob stub. Look at the back of the switch assembly and see if the shaft is sticking too far out the back. It may be as simple as pushing it back in.

Butch, this tread doesn't need a bump, you need to pop the hood and check that selector shaft like Pete suggests and post back here what you find.

i checked the shaft and it is sticking out of the switch assembly only about an 1/8 of an inch. i tried pushing it back in but it seems pretty secure.what would be the next step ? i`m not really that electroniclly inclined so what should i do ?

I believe the shaft should be flush with the end of the switch. Ideally you can turn the switch and watch the shaft to see if it moves with the selector knob when you turn it. If not, you will need to carfully push it back in. If it does appear to be moving, confirm that the contacts in the switch move as well.

Butch, you have the classic symptoms of a rotary switch that is not rotating but you are describing a switch that is rotating. If the switch shaft and all the wafers connected to it are indeed rotating, then it probably needs professional help to sort it out. But before you go that route, check it carefully again. If the shaft won't push back in, you need to align the knob stub with the shaft. It will only go in when it is oriented correctly. In other words, be sure the it is set to the Dolby position like you described earlier.

the shaft does not seem to want to move at all from front to back and from what i can see it looks like the contacts are making contact so i think what i`m going to do is take it to the stereo hospital which is about 2 miles from my house and let the tech see what he can find .thanks alot guys for all your help.i hope i can get this old sansui back up to spec as it sounds so sweet ,and i think i`ll be looking for another ,bigger , badder one in the weeks or months to come . thanks .

It may surprise you, that 7070 will provide more watts than all but the most very inefficient speakers will need.
