8 tracks!

What about copyright infringement ? The store a mention was just like any other record store but just these tapes. We used joke about them making them in the back room .

Not sure how that worked back then … this was before the Internet. Information was not as assessable as it is today. The vendors at Open Air Flea Markets were there for a while and then they were not (fly by night). It was not a permanent business.

I rejected the format in the mid 70's, as cassettes were beginning to improve, especially if I recorded lp's onto good Maxell or TDK chrome tapes.

FF 40 years. I now own 3 decks. One's a Quad:)

I have about 300 tapes. I paid about $50 for most of them, then was given several carrying cases with tapes. Total investment in the format, maybe a Franklin. This includes some replacement foam pads and some reversing foil.

My favorite deck is a RS unit-can't recall the model, but it has what I consider an essential feature-option to stop at end of each "program". I always play a tape the first time with this turned on-stops at the splice, which is almost always weak, and replace the splice and foil. Maybe later I fool with the foam, which does require opening the case-some are easier than others.

I am now quite fond of the format, and have many titles I lack in other formats. My expectations on reproduction quality are modest, so I am rarely disappointed, and occasionally I am surprised by how much I enjoy a tape.

Hi, I just Fixed and sold about (8) 8 track players and recorders, So I think that someone has a use for them. I have been selling them for the last 7 months and will keep fixing them and selling them, as long as they are available. I picked up a few more for repair and sell. I may keep one or two for myself. The Panasonics play pretty Good! Picture of my Dokorder MC-60.

Thanks,

My company has purchased about that many Panasonic RS-808 players from ebay over the past few months. We sent them to Spain for a media archiving project we're doing there. With the players, we've also sent the foam pads, splicing tape, rubber cartridge wheels and a few recorded and blank tapes. Apparently, 8-Track is still alive and well in Spain.
