9090 vs. 9090DB

Sorry if this topic has been done before, but I've done some searching and haven't been able to find a thread that answers my question completely. I'm going to take a look at a 9090 for sale and am hoping to get more informed.

I know the 9090DB has a great reputation and would like to know if there are any significant disadvantages (or ADvantages, for that matter) of the 9090 compared to the 9090DB. I'm aware the 9090DB has slightly more power but I've also read that its Dolby section can be somewhat troublesome.

I know very little about electronics; however, I've owned a QRX-6500 since the early '70s and am looking to get another vintage Sansui receiver with greater output. It seems that everybody loves the 9090DB but am wondering if maybe the 9090 is being overlooked just because it's not quite as powerful. Any other reasons the DB is more sought after?

Thanks!

Thanks, goinslow. Great reading and it answers all my questions.
If it's really a common question here, then as several posted in the thread: it should be made into a sticky or a part of the FAQs.

As our co-moderator mentioned, this Sansui Forum has the most stickys, so for me, the search function works quite well.

Maybe we have the most stickys, because we have the best forum and moderators.

Gee thanks....
And to the OP, I slightly prefer the non db version of this receiver, it's a trade off to lose the dolby board issues vs. the slightly higher output.
Either one is a damn fine machine.
