9090DB FM Stereo Light

I finally got my 9090DB home!! After a little panic when no sound came out I put a little "deoxit" in the selector switch and now everything sounds wonderful. The only thing wrong other than a bad signal meter light is the FM Stereo light. The bulb is good but never lights, the FM light comes on, it's just the stereo light that doesn't work. So, is this a big deal, or can someone with a little test equiptment and a little ability work it out.
Thanks Rod

First step I would determine if you are indeed decoding stereo in the tuner. Tune it to a good strong music signal and alternate between stereo and mono with the "mono" button. You should hear a distinct difference. If none is detected then you're ready for your last line but, no it's not a big deal. It'll always be better to go thru the tuner with the proper equipment but barring that you can muddle thru up to a point. You' next want to tweak VR03 a little and see if it has any effect at all - note the original position. If none of this gets an effect write back..... Should also have asked up front the obvious question - you are testing this with an adequate enough antenna to have good signal strength? Good luck

Hey, that was too easy. So, tell me what it means, after deciding it "was" playing mono I turned the VR03 back & forth a little at a time. I got a change in sound and the "Stereo" light at about 1/5th turn to the left. Was that a lot of a turn? Does it mean something is amiss, it seems like I've picked up some background noise now that we've got the Stereo. Yes, if I switch back to mono the "hiss" goes away.
Thank You Approse

BTW Right now I'm listening to the Sirius radio, using the built in antenna with the Sirius thing right next to Sansui. So the signal only goes about 4" and yet the the signal meter only reads 1. Does this seem right??

Rod,
Personal opinion I'd try using the Sansui with it's own antenna, if the signal strength is only 1 you're not really picking up enough of a signal that the unit should be trying to go into stereo. Even a short length of wire on the 75ohm connection would be better. The idea of the setting for stereo level is for exactly the reason you've seen.... lower signals are "quieter" in mono, only switch to stereo when you have the signal strength to have reasonable quieting. I'd take a stab that wherever the setting was it was probably correct.......

The Sirius radios have a terrible FM transmitter. Try different frequencies using the menu selection on the Sirius radio. I have found some that work better than others although they all have a hiss. For your 9090 you should use the audio out of the Sirius radio to the AUX input to the 9090. Don't use the tuner. If you must use the tuner, then get the direct tuner adapter for the Sirius radio.
