This thread was created to end a hijacked discussion in an unrelated thread. The original thread is here.
Based on the 357 we have on file in the Sansui Database, the 9090DB and it's variants, 990DB, 8080DB, 890DB were manufactured from October '76 to December '78. There were a variety of production changes during that time outlined in this thread.
The question came up in the hijacked thread of how far you would have to go into the production run to get all the factory modification. That's a good question but it's hard to answer because we don't have a list of changes or a complete audit to documenting them all.
In the hijack thread, AK member Waynegreen floated the change to "ivory" colored negative speaker terminals as an indication of full modification and provided a picture. This is a production change that I was unaware of and he was able to link it to a particular production line. It illustrates how hard it is to determine at what point in production the modifications ended.
It's also an example of what production changes are significant. Is it important to have these rare speaker terminals or would most folk be satisfied with the later amplifier and Dolby board design?
I think it's safe to say that the units manufactured in 1978 would have most if not all of the modifications. It's likely that units manufactured in mid and late 1977 would have them as well. We know for example, if the unit has the gold "Cad" plated chassis, it will have the driver board bias diode upgrade and the Dolby board ribbon cable.
I'd like to redirect this discussion to the "Lets Track 9090DB/8080DB Production Changes Thread" so we can keep this information in one place.
